In the morning, as He was returning to the city, He was hungry. And seeing a fig tree by the wayside He went to it, and found nothing on it but leaves only. And he said to it “May no fruit ever come from you again!” And the fig tree withered at once. When the disciples saw it they marveled, saying, “How did that tree wither at once?” And Jesus answered them, “Truly I say to you, if you have faith and never doubt, you will not only do what has been done to the fig tree, but even if you say to this mountain, Be taken up and cast into the sea, it will be done. And whatever you ask in prayer, you will receive, if you have faith.”

And when they came to the crowd, a man came up to Him and kneeling before Him said, “Lord, have mercy on my son, for he is epileptic and he suffers terribly; for often he falls into the fire, and often into the water. And I brought him to your Disciples, and they could not heal him.” And Jesus answered, “O Faithless and perverse generation, how long am I to bear with you? Bring him here to me.” And Jesus rebuked him, and the demon came out of him, and the boy was cured instantly. Then the Disciples came to Jesus privately and said, “Why could we not cast it out?” He said to them, “Because of your little Faith. For truly, I say to you, if you have Faith as a grain of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move hence to yonder place,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible to you.”
Now Faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. For by it the men old received divine approval. By Faith we understand that the world was created by the word of God, so that what is seen was made out of things that do not appear.
